Six Flags Military Discount

Six Flags offers a 20% off military discount off of their one day General Admission ticket. To receive your discount you must show your military ID. Six Flags is an amusement park that was founded in Texas. It’s a place to go to have fun, feel a rush of adrenaline, listen to a lot of screaming humans, and get away from the day-to-day of life for a day or two.

Supporting businesses who support the military is a great way to show support to businesses who are, at minimum, trying to support military families in actionable ways. They still earn money off of the arrangement, but they can also save families a good chunk of money. Let’s take a look at what Six Flags is all about, as well as ways to save on this vacation.

About Six Flags

There are 27 Six Flags parks across the United States, and in Canada, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. Six Flags was founded in Texas on August 5, 1961. The Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, also known as Six Flags Theme Parks, or simply Six Flags, is home to theme parks, amusement parks, water parks, and other family entertainment. Six Flags was named after its first amusement park, Six Flags Over Texas. Six Flags entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009, but was able to exit successfully in 2010 after corporate restructuring. There seems to be years of turmoil at the company, with financial struggles, and disagreements within the company about how things were operated. China looks to be opening several Six Flags, but it’s unknown when or if they are set to open anytime in the near future.

Six Flags is known for having a variety of rides, especially their thrill rides and some pretty intense roller coasters, with over 140-foot free falls, wooden coasters, massive swings, things that spin, twist, turn, and even roller coasters without a floor (hold on to your shoes!). There is a little something for all of those adventure seekers out there. There are rides for the whole family, water park attractions, as well as kid’s rides that feature Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes characters.

Military Discounts at Six Flags

Tickets cost $72.99 for a single day pass to Six Flags. With the military discount of 20% off the General Admission ticket, they are around $59 and some change, plus any extra fees that are added on. At Six Flags, in addition to all the rides you could imagine, there is also plenty of live entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences to be had. These things can add up to an expensive vacation so finding ways to save can make it a much more viable trip that doesn’t break the bank.

Six Flags shares that, “Most military bases offer discounted admission tickets at their MWR/ITR offices. There is a 20% military discount off the one day General Admission ticket at the Guest Services Center. A military ID is required to receive the discount.”

The discount doesn’t apply to season passes, but it never hurts to call in and ask to speak with a customer service representative who might be willing to help you save as much as possible. Those types of calls can be hit or miss, as it all depends on who you are speaking with. Newer people are often less likely to offer discounts because they are new and less familiar, but you sometimes run into those customer service reps who are willing to go above and beyond and offer greater deals.

Six Flags is a great option for a fun family vacation. It’s not quite the same as a trip to Disney World, but it all depends on what you are looking for. Disney World and Six Flags both offer discounts for military members and their families.

A great contender to consider if you are looking into a theme park vacation is Universal Studios. For those Potterheads out there (Harry Potter fans, for those who aren’t familiar with the wildly popular children’s wizarding and magical fiction book series), Universal has opened up the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in both Orlando and Los Angeles. Universal Studios offers a military discount for all military personnel and their families if the tickets are purchased ahead of time through a military ticket office. You can use this map to find a military ticketing office near you. If you don’t purchase ahead of time, they still offer a discount at the gate, it’s just not quite as steep of savings.

If you’re looking for a little taste of 1880s Americana, then maybe a trip to Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri is what you’re after. It’s packed with attractions, banjo music playing, unique shops, and rides and experiences for all ages.

Silver Dollar City also offers a military discount as a token of gratitude for the military member, their spouse, and their dependent children. Silver Dollar City offers a 2-day ticket for the price of one or $5 off a one day ticket. Any dependent children ages 4-11 receive a complimentary 2-day ticket if they are in attendance with the military member or their spouse who purchased a military ticket.

How To Save on a Trip to Six Flags

There are plenty of ways to cut costs for different vacations even when you aren’t saving a lot on the actual ticket price. The biggest costs often associated with travel are hotel costs, car rentals, entrance and ticket costs, and airline costs. You can save some money on your next trip by:

  • Checking if there is an amusement park within driving distance, even if it’s a full day’s drive. If you are trying to take your whole family on vacation, airline costs can add up quickly. Driving to the destination will still cost money, but could save you in car rental fees and airline costs. If you are flying, watching for cheap flights or travel during the off-season.
  • Book your hotel somewhat close to the attraction, within walking distance, or in a spot, that’s easy to use public transportation, but not too close to the attraction where hotels hike up their prices. Hotel rates vary wildly, so put some time into researching quality hotels that are affordable. You can find hotels that offer military discounts, as well as booking well in advance for a discount. You can always call the hotel too and try and bargain for a bargain.
  • Pack your own food, and plan accordingly. Six Flags, unlike Disney World, has a strict no outside food and drink policy. This means that you’re most likely going to be purchasing food at the park. You can save in this department by ensuring you fill up on breakfast before coming, and possibly leave for dinner to help cut costs.

Six Flags is a great family vacation for those who are interested in experiencing adrenaline-inducing rides and spending time together. Just like most vacations that involve an amusement park, prices can add up quickly. With the use of the 20% off military discounts that Six Flags offer, plus planning your travels during the off-season or with your budget in mind, you can have a great time at one of the many Six Flags parks that are available.

If you ever encounter a brand that doesn’t seem to offer a discount, you can always give them a call and see what kinds of deals they can offer you. This holds true for Six Flags as well. Check the deals they have available and choose the one that saves you the most.
