Painted Paws for Veterans is dedicated to assisting veterans and their families in adopting canine companions from animal shelters and rescues, in order to provide emotional support and a way to reconnect to life and family, both during and after military service. In addition to our adoption assistance program, we also offer therapy visits, veteran retreats and public education on PTSD and other veteran emotional issues. Please browse our site for more information about our programs, and the benefits of owning or spending time with a canine companion. Our programs are geared toward retired and disabled Veterans. Adoptions to active duty members and their families are considered on a case-by-case basis, due to issues with deployment and re-location. Please feel free to contact us with any comments or questions Painted Paws for Veterans is a Colorado Nonprofit Corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is an all-volunteer effort, governed by a Board of Directors who donate 100% of the administrative costs of the organization each year. Painted Paws for Veterans limits certain programs and services to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. For our purposes, the term veteran is defined as any individual who has served a minimum of 90 days of active duty or mobilized service in one of the U.S. Armed Forces, and has been discharged under other than dishonorable conditions. Veteran status may be established by providing a copy of an active duty or retiree military identification card, Form DD-214, or a disability award letter from the Veterans Administration. Programs and services are open to all veterans regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.
